The Location Problem (and How to Solve It)

Mandalay Bay sits at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. That sounds fine until you realize most Strip hotels are 1–3 miles north. A hotel that looks close on Google Maps might be a 30-minute walk through casino floors, pedestrian bridges, and parking garages. After 10 hours of sessions, that commute adds up fast — especially in 100°F June heat.

☀️ June heat warning: Las Vegas in early June averages 100°F (38°C) in the afternoon. Walking 15 minutes outside mid-day is genuinely unpleasant. If you're not staying at Mandalay Bay, book a hotel on the free tram or budget $20–40/day for rideshare.
🚃 Free tram tip: A free tram connects Mandalay Bay → Luxor → Excalibur. It runs every 15–20 minutes. From Excalibur you can walk to MGM Grand (5 min) and pick up the Las Vegas Monorail heading north. This route is how you beat the heat without paying for Ubers.

Hotels by Walkability Tier

We've organized every hotel recommendation by how easy it is to get to the convention center — no research required.

✅ Tier 1 — On-Site / Connected (Zero commute)

Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino

The convention center is literally inside the hotel. Roll out of bed, grab coffee, walk to keynotes. As close as it gets for a conference stay.

⭐ Best for: convenience maximalists and late risers

W Las Vegas (formerly Delano)

All-suite luxury tower connected directly to Mandalay Bay — rebranded from Delano to W Las Vegas in December 2024. Same prime location, connected walkway to the convention center, rooftop bar, quieter vibe than the main casino floor.

⭐ Best for: solo travelers, expense accounts, quiet stays

Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas

Occupies floors 35–39 of the Mandalay Bay tower. No casino, no smoke, no resort fee games — just clean luxury with private pools. Connected to the convention center via Mandalay Bay interior walkways.

⭐ Best for: luxury travel, smoke-free environment, those on high floors

🚃 Tier 2 — Free Tram Access (5–10 min, no Uber needed)

Luxor Hotel & Casino

The pyramid hotel is one tram stop from Mandalay Bay. Cheap rates, enormous property, solid for budget-conscious attendees. 4,000+ rooms means availability even when other hotels are sold out.

💰 Best for: budget travelers, groups booking late

Excalibur Hotel & Casino

The castle hotel two tram stops from Mandalay Bay — or a short walk from Luxor. Budget-friendly rates, very large property. Good option if Luxor is sold out. Monorail access to MGM Grand nearby.

🚶 Tier 3 — Short Walk or One Rideshare (15–20 min walk, $10–15 Uber)

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino

About 20 minutes on foot from the convention center, or 1 stop on the monorail from Excalibur. Massive complex with tons of dining options. Good midpoint between Mandalay Bay and mid-Strip properties.

Getting Around Without a Car

Free tram (most useful): Mandalay Bay ↔ Luxor ↔ Excalibur. Runs roughly every 15–20 minutes, 9am–10:30pm. This is your primary tool for conference commuting if you're staying at Luxor or Excalibur.

Las Vegas Monorail: Runs along the east side of the Strip from MGM Grand north to the SLS. A day pass is around $15. Useful if you're staying mid-Strip and want to reach MGM Grand, then walk south via tram to the convention center.

Rideshare: Uber and Lyft are widely available. Expect $12–18 from mid-Strip hotels, $20–30 from north-Strip hotels. Surge pricing happens after conference sessions end (5–7pm) — budget accordingly.

Airport to Mandalay Bay: Harry Reid International is 2 miles south. Rideshare takes 10–15 minutes and costs $15–25. A taxi runs $20–30. The resort fee doesn't cover shuttles.

What "Walkable" Actually Means in Las Vegas

Las Vegas casino floors are engineered to slow you down. The indoor route from one hotel to the next often takes 2–3x longer than it looks on the map. A "10-minute walk" frequently means navigating through a massive casino floor, escalators, skywalks, and parking garages.

For Cisco Live specifically: if you're not on the free tram route (Mandalay Bay/Delano/Four Seasons → Luxor → Excalibur), expect to budget 20+ minutes of commute time per session day — minimum. In 100°F June heat, that changes your math significantly.

The practical rule: stay in Tier 1 or Tier 2, or use rideshare. Walking 30+ minutes to keynotes in June heat is a mistake most first-time Cisco Live Vegas attendees make exactly once.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hotel is Cisco Live 2026 at?

Cisco Live 2026 is at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, 3950 S Las Vegas Blvd. The convention center is physically connected to the Mandalay Bay resort, the Delano, and Four Seasons Las Vegas.

What dates should I book?

The conference runs May 31 – June 4, 2026. Most attendees fly in Sunday May 30 (first sessions are Monday morning) and leave Friday June 5 or Saturday June 6. Book at minimum May 30–June 5.

How hot is Las Vegas in early June?

Very hot. Average daily highs hit around 100°F (38°C). Mornings (before 10am) are manageable. Midday outdoor walking is not. Plan accordingly — the free tram and rideshare become essential rather than optional.

Is parking free at Mandalay Bay?

Self-parking is available but fees apply. MGM Rewards members at certain tiers get free self-parking. Expect $15–25/day for valet. If you're driving in from elsewhere in Vegas, parking costs add up fast — factor that into the hotel comparison.

Are hotel rates higher during Cisco Live?

Yes, meaningfully so. Mandalay Bay and Delano in particular see significant rate increases when conference bookings fill up. Book early. Luxor and Excalibur typically retain more reasonable rates even during conferences.
